This is a term I came up with to describe how I approach my recordings. I prioritise the performance of a song above all else in a recording.

For example if I record using many different mics, a click track or even record the guitar and vocals separately, I might get a better quality sound but it probably won’t capture the best performance possible!

This isn’t something that everyone will always agree with but I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this?
