A sign of success in the end is to refer to God in the beginning. If there is no sunrise in the beginning, there is no sunrise in the end.
In this profound wisdom, Imam Ibn ʿAṭā’ Allāh points to one of the most important spiritual laws of the journey to Allah: the endings are reflections of the beginnings.
He teaches that the sign of a blessed, successful ending—whether in a project, a spiritual path, a lifetime, or even the Hereafter—is that the beginning of that journey is rooted in sincere reliance upon Allah, pure intention, and seeking His help.
Just as the sunrise can only appear if light first begins to break through the darkness, the spiritual “sunrise” in one’s life, one’s deeds, or one’s final moments is only possible if there was an initial orientation toward Allah.
If the beginning is filled with heedlessness, ego, or self-reliance, then expecting beauty and light at the end becomes unrealistic.
This Hikmah calls us to start right, start sincere, start with Allah.
