By 1972, after 8 years of war on Vietnam and Southeast Asia, the US had dropped close to six. million tons of bombs and napalm on Vietnam. It had killed close to a half million people; it had sprayed more than10 million tons of dioxin (agent orange) on North and South Vietnam. More than 200 B-52 bombers filled the skies, dropping their deadly ordinance. The Nixon Administration managed to fool Americans -- most of whom were against the war -- that the war was winding down. Yet the massive shipments of bombs coming out of Bangor, Washington and some 20 other arsenals across the U.S., exposed the lie. To youth, especially, it seemed the horror would never end. The policy of the US government was committed to using maximum force to destroy the will of the Vietnamese to fight; it didn't work then and it's not working now against Iran.
For many in the Seattle area, the hope was to call attention to the ongoing slaughter -- by mounting a blockade that might help expose the lies: block trains, transport ships, non-violent resistance, risking arrest, fines, incarceration. Stop the war. A year later, the war ended; the US ignominiously got out. After more than a half century of U.S. imperialist wars , it seems that Iran may bring about regime change in the U.S.
