Volcanoes are some of the most powerful and destructive natural forces on the planet. To the ancient people of Hawaii, the volcanoes were under the control of a temperamental goddess by the name of Pele. Known for her stunning beauty and short fuse, Pele was driven from her home and found her way to the Big Island where she's lived ever since. Belief in Pele has persisted into the modern age, where some say that they've encountered her in the form of a vanishing hitchhiker!
