Pelé was among the most celebrated players in the FIFA World Cup, despite not even being in Qatar. He's beloved in the country he only visited once, in 1973, during a trip with his club Santos.
Pelé is regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. Both FIFA and the International Olympic Committee consider him the Player of the Century. Time magazine also included him in the list of the 100 most important people of the 20th century. Pelé scored 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, which is recognized as a Guinness World Record. He's the only player to win the FIFA World Cup 3 times (1958, 1962, and 1970). In his native Brazil, he's known as the king. Pelé has passed, but his memory lives on in all football fans.
