Does peer review prove that a scientific claim is true?

Not exactly.

Peer review is an important part of the scientific process. It allows other experts to evaluate research, identify potential weaknesses, and improve the quality of published work.

But peer review is not infallible.

Like any human system, it can be influenced by prevailing assumptions, dominant theories, and the limitations of current knowledge.

Throughout the history of science, some ideas that were initially rejected eventually gained acceptance after additional evidence accumulated.

That's why the strongest scientific conclusions rest not simply on publication or consensus, but on evidence that continues to withstand careful testing and scrutiny.

In this episode, we discuss what peer review is, what it isn't, and why critical thinking remains essential in science.
