This is by far the most effort I've ever put into a track. I hope it shows.
This started as a humble solo production many months ago. Then I wrote lyrics, and decided I couldn't be the one to sing them (we all know how well that would turn out...). My friend Nathaniel was however happy to oblige. He also says this song is amazing, and I trust his judgement.
I then made every effort to extract its full potential, resulting in my most complicated production yet. It also meant that earlier today I spent about an hour making final adjustments to hi-hats, flying past my self-imposed deadline. Eh, it's all the better for it.
I hope you enjoy this, and I hope even more that I'm not delusional in my belief that this is my best work yet. A song about someone going mad with fame may a little presumptuous though, I will admit.

REUPLOADED BECAUSE I'M STUPID: After so long spent coaxing as much volume out of this track as possible, I tripped up at the final stage because Movie Maker set the audio volume lower than max and I didn't notice. Sorry for the re-upload.

[INSTRUMENTAL INTRO]
You’ve done it, in one hit, reached the summit,
But does the game that we’re playing finish if you’ve won it?
Carrying the hopes, the dreams, the scorn,
It’s a different world now to the one where you were born.
But there’s…
Nowhere I know,
Where a madman like you can’t steal the show,
They like to point and laugh and you do too, you think,
The crowd’s your only shrink,
And you’re never escaping the box,
No you’re never escaping this box,
So you might as well…
Rock,
Jump around, up and down, in your shiny pearl socks,
Shock,
You’re famed and humble, waiting for the crumbling to…
Stop,
It’s not excess if it covers up the mess,
‘Cause your mind’s the fiend you know,
So get on with the show,
And rock.
[INSTRUMENTAL BREAK]
You’ve got minute by minute analytics,
But have the media moguls told you how to spin it?
God forbid you worked at your own leisure,
One against the world and yourself for good measure.
Because there’s…
Nowhere on Earth,
That’s gonna give you this kind of social worth,
Guess that’s the price you’re paying to be a star,
They all know who you are,
And they’re breaking all of your locks,
Just to look at your shiny pearl socks, whoaohoh.
Rock,
Slip and slide, side to side, in your shiny pearl socks,
Shock,
You’re famed and humble, waiting for the crumbling to…
Stop,
It’s not excess if it covers up the mess,
‘Cause your mind’s the fiend you know,
So get on with the show,
And rock.
[INSTRUMENTAL BREAK]
Oh no, you’re going loco, virtuoso,
All of your faults disassembled on the radio,
A life of ease ain’t worth remembering, they say,
Always a will, never a way.
Frolic in hyperbolics,
Since the best of the best should not be melancholic,
Yet the caveman inside you keeps wanting more,
So buy some ostentatious socks and the matching décor.
Then…
Rock,
Might as well, since you’re swell in your shiny pearl socks,
Shock,
You’re famed and humble, waiting for the crumbling to…
Stop,
It’s not excess if it covers up the mess,
‘Cause your mind’s the fiend you know,
So get on with it,
Don’t die, don’t live,
Just rock.
