Only one species of fish, the pearl mullet, lives in the largest lake in Turkey - Lake Van. This lake has no outlet since lava from a nearby volcano blocked the outflow, thereby creating one of the worlds largest alkaline lake. Pearl mullet feed on plankton and every May and June migrate up the various feeder streams in order to spawn. Here we are on the Bendimani River.
