A guy paid a $20,000 fine using over 12,000 pounds of pennies. He was allowed to build a 6 foot wide, 100 foot long pathway, but ended up building a 12-20 foot wide pathway so the town fined him. The town excepted the payment in pennies, but were considering giving him a handling fee, except maybe they chose not to do that, knowing what he could have paid that it.. Later on, the town actually passed a new rule that banned the use of loose change for payments over $100.
