Final Fantasy VII is a game loved by most, and known by nearly all. From the humble beginnings of changing the face of JRPG’s in 1997 on PlayStation One. To next-gen action, RPG is still setting sales records and shaping a new Final Fantasy VII in the present day. While the compilation features several themes worthy of analysis. This panel aims to investigate and dissect one of those – in this instance the role of evidentialism, capitalism and energy consumption. From Crisis Core, to Remake, to Dirge the role of fighting for the environment, access to energy and the forces of capitalism all take place. This playful and family-friendly panel looks at what the game reflected on in 1997, how it stands now and what it might mean for our future. This collection of experts will consider the development of this theme throughout the game, its resemblance to real life and how we can all do a little to help the planet and “give back to the lifestream”.
