Streaming has levelled up the gaming world; turning solo play into a social experience, and helping players find their community. For some, it’s turned a passion into a source of income, offering flexibility, financial stability, and a creative outlet.
But streaming does come with some downsides. It can be draining, and many creators are burning out behind the scenes.
Australia is currently living through a mental health emergency. Two in five (40%) young people are currently experiencing challenges with their mental health. Nearly half of all people in Australia have experienced a mental health condition in their lifetime.
For streamers, these challenges are only amplified.
Streaming can expose you to criticism, negativity and increased stress. From the pressure to perform and parasocial relationships, to the lack of work-life boundaries and the long work hours.
Join Annie Lisle from ReachOut, Australia's leading digital youth mental health service, as she leads a panel discussion with some of Australia's favourite streamers to unpack their experiences with stress and burnout. MopGarden, Kahls, Cuzb0t and ToastRackTV will candidly share how they seek to beat one of the toughest final bosses in the game: taking care of themselves.
In this session, Annie will share practical tips and strategies to help streamers and gamers look after their mental health. Hear from our panel of streamers about what they do for self-care, and share ReachOut’s cheat codes for mental health and wellbeing in and out of the game.
About ReachOut:
ReachOut is the leading online mental health service in Australia supporting young people during tough times.
ReachOut helps young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they’re facing. We provide a safe place where young people can openly express themselves, explore what’s happening in their lives, connect with people who understand their situation, and find the resources to help them manage their challenges now and in the future.
Anonymous, free and 100% online, ReachOut has been designed specifically for – and with – young people.
Over the last few years, ReachOut has been working in the online gaming/streaming space to bring wellbeing support and mental health awareness to the Twitch community, providing duty of care and mental health support and resources for our partnered streamers, and promoting safe online communities.
Streamers have created their own safe, inclusive spaces for their community to come together. We want to be able to support streamers with tough conversations that may come up in stream, and provide direct wellbeing support to their audiences.
