An artist with a rich and impressive portfolio to his name, Matter returns to the Meanwhile fold with another 24-carat gold, twin-track EP in the shape of “Empty Universe / Welcome to You”.
Matty Doyle has frequented the upper echelons of the underground dance scene for a decade. A Beatport Top 10 Progressive House artist for 5 years under his Matter soubriquet, the Melbourne-based artist has mesmerised audiences with a scintillating palette of sounds built around “deep synth lines, driving bass and pulsating rhythms”. The resulting output has led the Australian’s production work to feature on a host of high-profile imprints that include All Day I Dream, Vapour Recordings, Anjunadeep and Balance Music. Moreover, over 50 of those have found their way onto Meanwhile in both collaborative – with co-founder GMJ – and solo guises. No better is this talent illustrated than on the December 2024 album “We Are Here” where a magnum opus of progressive gems glitter with an unrivalled sparkling iridescence. A trio of solo original EPs add further to a cast-iron reputation within the genre fraternity as Matter returns with sensational new original music.
In trademark fashion, “Empty Universe” is built upon a foundation of huge chest-thumping kick and a rapid-fire combination of hi-hat and shaker percussion. Adding to the groove, a sub-bassline supplies low-end gravitas before an arpeggio mesmerises in gradually filtered beauty, before opening-up fully in a stripped-back breakdown. Reaching its zenith, the glorious rhythmic collage drops back into the fray in the third movement with a cascading cornucopia of effects that pan the left-right spectrum with dizzying energy and force.
Partner track, “Welcome to You” quickly drives forward with huge four-to-the-floor presence, while wood-block percussion and off-beat hats create a sonic picture that is built upon layers of hypnotic rhythm and lyrical sounds. A haunting motif then adds a dramatic melodic moment as it drives the rising breakdown to a huge denouement. Hitting its stride again in the second half, the central motif appears again, accompanied by a dramatic and mesmerising groove that is certain to see dancefloors moving in unison in an unbounded moment of pure progressive delight.
A twin-track EP of epic proportions see Matter creating a powerful magnetic field with “Empty Universe / Welcome to You”.

Built around driving percussion, old school vocal chops and relentless peak-time energy, Right Now brings together two artists known for crafting music designed for the biggest stages. Budakid presents Dreams Stretched Beyond, his debut album arriving July 3rd. The Dutch, Berlin based producer, DJ, singer, and multi-instrumentalist continues to build his music from the ground up, and with Flores, his own label, he has created a home to fully realise that vision.
Born into a musical family with Indonesian heritage, Budakid was a drummer long before he discovered drum machines. Rhythm came first and remains the core of his productions, while he later studied music theory for four years at the conservatorium. Later in his career he found the confidence to bring his voice more prominently into his work, and he as always produced and recorded all of his music himself.
The foundations for this new chapter, the album, were formed during a period when Budakid stepped away from everyday noise and spent several years living in the Alps. The isolation allowed him to tune out and go deeply into the creative process. Surrounded by mountains and quiet landscapes, he focussed on writing new music that would eventually become Dreams Stretched Beyond.
Launching his own label became another important step in that process. While he has released music on so many respected labels, the new album marks the first moment where his sound appears completely without compromise. Flores offers Budakid the freedom to express his personal identity fully and the confidence to finally release this milestone debut album after nearly twenty years in the music industry.
With over a thousand shows played across all continents, Budakids music stretches beyond the usual club format with a sound that has found support from a wide range of talent, including Adriatique, Hernan Cattaneo, Bonobo and Dixon. Parts of his catalogue released on labels connected to Sasha, Max Cooper, Solomun and Guy J, yet, it took nearly twenty years before he felt ready to present a debut LP, reflecting the long and often unpredictable path of building a life in music.
Album single Endless reflects the uncertainty that comes with choosing a life in music. Budakid sees this as a sense of moving forward without guarantees, falling endlessly into whatever direction the future may hold. When someone shares that fall beside you, it becomes easier to keep moving.
Endless is a reflection of what it is like being an artist. Almost blindfolded, we fall endlessly into wherever destiny may take us. Are we good enough? What does the future bring for us? There is an endless vagueness and insecurity that comes with this artist lifestyle. No certainty, only our own energy and motivation to move endlessly forward. It is like the act of breathing. The first lyrics express that train of thought. The second part is more about wishing for hope and security.
