Patty is a stray cat that showed up on our security cameras late in 2020. She was obviously looking for food nightly. I tried leaving food out overnight but several neighborhood cats and even a possum were eating the food before her.
I found where she was hiding during the day and started giving her food and water. After she ate, I put the food away but left the water. It took a few days but she became comfortable for me to approach her. Unfortunately, it seems like somebody abandoned her.
I put a litterbox in the bathroom next to my filming room because I didn't want her wandering around the neighborhood and doing her business elsewhere. Somebody might trap her and who knows if she would be adopted. She took to the litterbox immediately so that makes it seem even more possible that she had a family before.
I soon decided that she should stay in my office. I let her wander during the day (she stays in the backyard mostly). But when she became obviously pregnant, I didn't let her stay outside for long anymore. I definitely wanted to lock her up at night because I didn't want her to become coyote food.
I can't keep her in the house because we adopted a previous stray. Moosie, her three kittens and even her sister! They are our house cats. They are not allowed to go outside. Since it's THEIR house, they are very territorial and don't like other cats coming around, even outside! They are all spayed and neutered.
Patty and her kittens will get the same treatment but I won't be able to take care of her kittens. They have to find new families who will take care of them when they are suitable for adoption. Patty is a great cat! I love having her around but it would be best for her to find a new family too.
