Patrik Pietschmann - Dystopia (Piano Version)
Composed by Patrik Pietschmann

As you probably already know from my previous compositions, my works usually reflect my feelings and thoughts that accompanied or occupied me at the time. This composition is a little darker than the previous ones, and when you read the title you might ask yourself: Why so negative?

I believe that we are living in the most exciting and thrilling time in human history, in which technical possibilities and innovations are developing exponentially. During the creation phase of this composition, I dealt intensively with the topic of artificial intelligence, as I am generally very enthusiastic about technology. The current state of development of humanoid robots such as Figure 01 or the new Atlas from Boston Dynamics overwhelmed me. I am also fascinated (and scared) by AI music platforms such as Suno or Udio, which can generate complete songs just with a short prompt. The new ChatGPT-4 Omni model also enables even more natural communication between humans and machines and has recently become available to everyone.

I find it fascinating, but also frightening, to see the leaps in quality that AI models have made in just a few months, and we are still at the very beginning. I am very excited to see what will change in the next 5 to 10 years. My personal emotional state currently fluctuates between absolute enthusiasm and fascination for what humans can create and, at the same time, concern about the possible negative effects of an AI transformation. This could not only have a huge impact on the creative professions, but also the entire job market and other areas of life. Every change brings advantages and disadvantages, and I very much hope that the advantages of AI will ultimately outweigh the disadvantages. Maybe it's all just a lot of hype - although Bill Gates said in 1993: "The internet is just hype." And here we are.

So why this title? It's just because of my everlasting fascination for dystopian movies, especially those in which AI takes control and tries to wipe out or enslave humanity. Not because I think that could happen in reality. Let's at least hope that it doesn't happen...
