In this story, which was eventually posted on The Moth Radio Hour (called "The Accidental Cat" on The Moth here themoth.org/stories/the-accidental-cat ) Patrick tells the story of his cat Rita, who he inherited because of a scary life circumstance of a friend. Rita wasn't meant to be in the world for long, and I didn't know how long I'd be around either, but somehow we both survived.
The Moth StorySLAM is a storytelling competition that happens monthly around the United States, where storytellers tell 5-minute stories without scripts and are judged by the audience. Winners of StorySLAM contests go on to the Moth GrandSLAM, and sometimes our stories get chosen to be put on The Moth Radio Hour or The Moth Podcast. This story is (so far) the only story I've had featured on The Moth Radio Hour.
