Smuggling people from Africa to Europe is a billion dollar industry. 16-year-old Pati, who lost her parents, was forced to put her life in the hands of smugglers and go through a terrifying ordeal in her search for a better life.

Last year, at least 4,579 people - including children - died attempting to cross the Mediterranean from Libya. The route is among the world’s deadliest and most dangerous migrant routes for children and women. It is mostly controlled by smugglers, traffickers and others seeking to prey on desperate women and children who are seeking refuge or a better life.
