Patch 3.8 Preview: Multiplayer Update with David Kim @StarCraft
Uploaded November 2016 | Updated September 2026, 2 weeks ago
Earlier this year at DreamHack Montreal, Lead Multiplayer Designer David Kim sat amidst an audience of passionate StarCraft II players and revealed the team’s plans to issue a major patch to StarCraft II Multiplayer.

The intent behind these changes has been to bring the game to a place that is consistently full of diverse combat, strategically-rich choices, and balanced gameplay. As we continue down this path, changes to the game should become increasingly less-disruptive, allowing players to approach unprecedented mastery in various areas of the game.

All of this, however, is perhaps still a long way off, so let’s talk instead about what is imminent: some of the changes coming in Patch 3.8!

--Terran--

The Terran race in StarCraft ll has an incredibly imposing group of mech units like siege tanks, widow mines and cyclones. The fantasy behind these units is cool, but mech wasn't quite as powerful as it should have been and now we want to change that.

Siege Tank: Updating its zone control by massively increasing its damage and disabling its ability to be airlifted by medivacs
Cyclone: Turning into a fragile high-DPS unit
Thor: A core counter option against all types of air threats

These changes should not only make mech more viable but compelling.

--Zerg--

For Zerg we want to add more tech options to your army.

Hydralisk: Movement speed and range increased
Infestor: Can casts all abilities while burrowed

--Protoss--

For Protoss we wanted to add some more punch to the basic army while evening out the races harassment options.

Zealot: Base movement speed bonus from “Research Charge” increased
Void Ray: Speed increased
Dark Templar: Have the ability to blink
Adepts: Vision reduced
War Prisms: Health reduced

These aren't the only changes going into StarCraft ll. More Details about the Multiplayer Update: blizz.ly/2eTAyHT
