Spell was arrested by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office on a charge of second-degree battery and later released after posting bond. Speaking to reporters after his release, he defended his response, saying, “I have a duty and obligation to do what I did. Number one, I’m a husband, number two, I’m a father, and number three, I’m a pastor.” He added that he would never ignore serious threats directed at his family and said, “The truth will come out in court.”
