I once heard a great tip about bass sound design by Encanti - When you layer a bass sound, you should always aim for the overall sound to sound like one organic instrument rather than the different bits of it 🎸 
I definitely try to get to that point with any layered sound I create, bass or any other instrument 🎛️🙏
