NOTE: Neither was I driving nor was I in the car, so I only know limited information from what my friend tells me.
This is the dash cam footage retrieved from my friend's camera. Here's a birds eye view of my friend (the Silver sedan) and the semi truck which hit him: http://i.imgur.com/7qeCDfv.jpg
My friend got off work and was walking to his car. He noticed a semi truck parked right where his spot was (refer to picture above). The driver of the semi was standing outside the semi, on the phone. My friend gets in his car, starts his car, and starts backing up. Half way through backing up, he hears the semi start up, so he stops backing up. (The dashcam turns on at this point) The semi being so high up, was unable to see his car, and plowed right into his side/rear. The video shows my friend's car being pushed at an angle by the semi truck.
The truck driver admits fault on scene, but then tells ICBC (insurance company) a different story. Unfortunately, my friend didn't get the truck driver admitting fault on camera, so ICBC has put him 100% at fault for the accident. Repair costs was somewhere around $3000 for his car, I'm not sure about the truck. My friend is pretty much fucked because if he doesn't pay the $3000 himself, he will have to pay an extra $5000 for insurance over the next 5 years.
The time stamp on the video is incorrect, the date is correct though. This accident happened on Jan 24, 2014, sometime in the early evening, in Richmond, BC.
