A brand new original song based around Billy Kid, featuring originally created backing music, sound design, and artwork.
Zenless Zone Zero has quickly become one of my favourite new universes to explore thanks to brilliant artistic direction and animation, a robust fun combat system, and a brilliant cast of characters. Billy in particular is one character that stands above the rest to me, inspiring me to create a track that's reflects who he is.
A combat hardened android who has turned away from the life of an outlaw to make a better life for himself and others, Billy's story is the sort of characterisation that I love in stories, where the surface of a character is hiding a lot more depth than you would assume. Billy is clearly not proud of what he used to be in his past, but is still optimistic enough to strive for a better future with new companions by his side.
To that end, I wanted the music to reflect that, utilising more old-school EDM sounds to match Zenless' retro-future aesthetic but coupled with the sort of lyrics and vocalisation that would be of the uplifting and personal side akin to the likes of Armin van Buuren and other Trance legends.
Please make sure to also check out all of my wonderful collaborators who helped bring this sizeable project to life. Both kalico and shanime did an amazing job at rendering out the Cunning Hares in a unique visual style, and MrDemoVE has once again proven how much of a powerhouse they are at visual editing with their own fantastic visual flair! And, of course, my long time collab partners and friends Cycoriot and Archnephilia for providing their voices to Nicole and Anby repsectively (and nailing it!).
