This multimedia dance performance expands the possibilities of representation by invoking Afrofuturist author Octavia E. Butler's spatial and temporal insights into our current realities and dreamscapes. Presented by jill moniz as part of the year-long celebration of Caltech's first Black graduate, Grant Venerable, we invite viewers to see this Caltech innovator as building an alternative world, just as Butler did, and SiriusShapeShifters will enact. Focusing on frontiers and borders, the performance will address the linkages between campus architecture, space, race, knowledge, and power. The performance will conclude with a discussion with Dr. moniz and SiriusShapeShifters: d. Sabela grimes and Meena Murugesan.
