The Papuan Pitta had recently been split from the Red-bellied Pitta complex. This species migrates from PNG around November each year to reach the Northern areas of Cape York Peninsular. They build a nest on the ground, often in the buttress roots of a tree.They are a stunning bird when seen closely. To achieve, this close encounter, I built a small hide and had to spend many hours in extremely humid conditions. The bonus was to get the bird calling. I filmed these sequences in January 2019. In hindsight, I wish I had purchased my full frame Camera as this camera did struggle with the low light conditions. Tim Siggs. ABVC.
