Paola Bonfanti is a Principal Research Associate at The Francis Crick Institute, is leading research on stem cells to understand more about how they work, discover how problems with stem cells lead to disease, and find out how we can use this knowledge to repair the body. In this video, Bonfanti takes us through developments in overlapping gene and stem cell therapy concepts – which have already resulted in curing a Butterfly Child (a child diagnosed with Epidermolysis Bullosa) – and applying it to a tissue engineering process to regenerate the oesophagus.
