Pangolins are extremely rare to see in the wild, being small, nocturnal and very shy . This pangolin wears a tracker as it is being used for research on the species. Trevor and our guests were very fortunate to be able to go out with the researchers one night and approach this pangolin on foot. Pangolin numbers are in decline, they are heavily poached for their scales for use in traditional medicines outside of Africa. These scales are made of the same keratin as rhino horns, neither have shown any health benefit.
