This panel examines the tactics of repression authoritarian regimes employ to silence dissent, such as the imprisonment of dissidents, manipulation of the narrative through state media, and crackdowns on civil society. In particular, panelists discuss the rising trend of arbitrary detention as it relates to human rights activism, and how the international community can expand protections for political prisoners.
