Although the global Net-Zero Framework has been delayed, regional rules on carbon pricing and life-cycle fuel metrics are in place, including Europe’s Emissions-Trading System and FuelEU Maritime, as well as a regional carbon-pricing alignment in Asia. “Green corridor” partnerships, such as the ones between Singapore and Rotterdam, and Japan with Australia, are trialing voluntary carbon-pricing and low-emission fuel schemes. What do these rules mean for the global competitiveness of shipping companies and their customers? How can companies in shipping’s value chain anticipate changes and adapt? What should global supply-chain leaders prioritise and plan for?
