Panasonic has changed the 1500 model so it no longer features the flagship panel minus the Dolby Atmos audio system. The MZ1500 for 2023 offers last year's panel without MLA and a new soundbar that many enthusiasts will not want. So what gives?

The Panasonic MZ1500 is an excellent mid-tier OLED TV designed for movie fans and dark room viewing conditions. Sadly it doesnt have the top-end MLA (Micro Lens Array) panel found in the flagship MZ2000, but it does feature the previous flagship Master OLED Pro panel with a proprietary heat sink found in last years models.

SDR and HDR content is accurate thanks to Filmmaker Mode out of the box, plus there is the added benefit for bright room viewing with a new light sensor and white balance adjustment that follows the creator's intent but adjusts the image to suit your environment.

Plus, there is support for HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+Adaptive, Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR formats and gaming is well catered for with two HDMI 2.1 ports (40Gbps), an improved game bar and an accurate True Game picture mode. Its an impressive package that sits well with competing sets at this level of the market and comes highly recommended.

*The good*
Excellent cinematic SDR & HDR image quality
Support for all HDR formats
True game picture mode, game bar and decent gaming features
Good sound quality

*The not so good*
Only two 40Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports with eARC using one
Some visible posterisation around bright objects
Just above black dithering and some black crush noticeable
