Air Crash: Encoded - Episode 2
1988 Missouri Mid-Air Collision → False Alarm
[INFO] =
On August 8, 1988 a McDonnell Douglas DC-10F operated by Federal Express Flight 1142 was cruising above the skies of Missouri, until two F-14 Tomcats started to intercept the aircraft, this was a result of a squawk 7500 code that was traced to the aircraft. Whilst during the interception, intense turbulence from a storm flipped one of the F-14s causing it to crash into the aircrafts right wing, causing it to separate, the plane lost control and crashed into a forest. All 5 on board the DC-10 died including 1 on the F-14, it was concluded that an accidental setting of the 7500 squawk code that caused the interception, the reason why the squawk was activated is unknown.
