The start and end of a Palace X Video, taken from the VHS release of Fantasyworld (1979), with edits. This particular title was released in July of 1984.

The Palace X Video label was created by Palace Home Video as a sub-label in 1984, for the purpose of releasing X-rated hardcore pornographic films for the Australian home video rental market. It operated for a limited period of time.

The X rating was introduced by the Australian federal government in February of 1984, specifically for the home video rental market to accommodate not only porn films, but any film considered too violent, explicit or extreme for an R rating. X-rated videos were required to be placed in a separate, lockable, closed off section of a video library where children were not permitted to enter. They were not made available in Queensland or Tasmania, however. These states refused to pass the required complimentary state-based legislation, allowing for the sale or hire of X-rated material. This legislation was necessary because the hardcore material would have otherwise fallen foul of local obscenity laws.

As with other retro 'start and end' home video content on my channel, it is presented here for its historical interest, curiosity value, and to educate people about the type of promotional material they contained. I realise it is weirdly edited, and I apologise for this. But all of the sexually explicit content needed to be removed because none of it is permitted on YouTube (see Community Guidelines). So it is either this version or nothing at all. The video is therefore suggestive but not explicit. It sits behind an age restriction and is not intended for viewing by minors.

Aside from the titles listed above, the following films were also released in their uncut hardcore versions on the Palace X Video label:

* Nurses of the 407 (1982)
* Tropic of Desire (1979)

The two films below were promoted as 'coming soon' on the label in Australia's Video-X magazine, but were ultimately not released because the label had been discontinued:

* Carnal Olympics (1983)
* Marathon (1983)

We therefore think fourteen Palace X titles in total were released or intended to be released before it was discontinued.

With the exception of Caligula, all of these trailers were extensively edited to remove their hardcore scenes. But I'm sorry to say the trailers for Expensive Tastes and Intimate Lessons were so sexually explicit that they both lost a lot of footage for inclusion here. The full trailer for Expensive Tastes ran for approximately 3 minutes, but only 40 seconds (!) could be included here. The Intimate Lessons teaser lost 30 seconds of its full 1 minute run time.
