In the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, F-86 Sabre was the most numerous combat aircraft on the Pakistani side. Along with previously acquired F-86F, they also purchased 90 Canadian built Sabres previously operated by Germany with Iranian assistance. Sabres were mostly employed on ground attack duties but often, they would encounter Indian aircraft on their missions which would lead to shootdowns. Something like that happened on 14 December, when Squadron Leader Gauhar led a flight of Sabres on a close-air-support mission.
