The first Terminator had featured a single cyborg, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day had featured two; and so, it followed that Terminator 3 would boast three Terminators: the original, ‘800-series’ cybernetic organism, again played by Arnold Schwarzenegger; the ‘T-X’, a more sophisticated version of the T-1000 shape-shifter from the second film; and the ‘T-1’, a present-day robot that is the crude prototype for future Terminators.

To distinguish the T-X endoskeleton from the previous chrome-plated Terminator, Stan Winston’s artists devised a black chrome look inspired by a cigar lighter Winston carried in his pocket. The final T-X endoskeleton also featured blue running lights — as opposed to the original’s red lights — made from bright LEDs and fiber optics.

In this video, John Cherevka is seen working on the Terminatrix (aka T-X) head for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
