If you want to get better at basing, get yourself some materials that will make it easier!
Bark and wood have nice natural textures and can be easily sourced outside.
Sculpting putties like Green Stuff, Milliput, or Apoxy Sculpt allow for creating mass however you like, which you can even stick and affix bits into.
Sand, Dirt, Baking Soda, and Tile Grout are amazing for ground and dirt textures, and dirt cheap! (pun intended)
And these are just a few to name. Allow yourself options for creation, and make cool bases!
