Enjoy this time-lapse video of the installation of "Painting" by Boris Zakic. This artwork is painted by hand on canvas and measures 60 x 22 feet. Titled "Painting," it interprets the historic theme of Visual Art & Artists in New Albany, Indiana. "Painting" is one of the 2013 art installations of the New Albany Public Art Project: Bicentennial Series, which is a multi-year project that interprets the history of New Albany, Indiana through the eyes of artists. Artist Statement:
"This artwork started as an homage to George W. Morrison, and became an exploration of painting itself. What brings the shared histories of Morrison and painters of today together, I believe, is the moment at which the artists mirror themselves in their initial gestures, as if witnessing their own becoming in the paint. This was a fun and amazingly exciting project to work on, involving daily practice, looking for a particular immediacy in paint. It's perhaps a blend of transparency, thickness, or simply a type of paint-space that is perhaps unpredictable, but still familiar. It is really liberating to be able to seek an 'immediacy of paint' on a different scale. It is something I look forward to at 8 o'clock in the morning!"
This art installation was created through a collaboration with the Impasto Mannerisms painting class at Georgetown College, which included students: Jennifer Cobb, Steven Faulkner, Maddie Frits, Mallory Meisner, Tayler Potts, Areil Sniegowski and Alex Williams.
Biography:
Boris Zakic received an MFA at University of New Orleans in 2000 and the "Neue Dimensionen der Wissenschaft" Award by Göethe Intitut, Belgrade for Translation Paintings in 2004. He has since worked on Alizarine & Bronzino (2009), appeared at Cincinnati Fringe Fest (2009-2010), The Independents at Liverpool Biennial (2010) and more recently, at Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft in Louisville (2013). His teaching appointments have included Georgetown College, University of New Orleans and KIIS program in Athens and Rome. In Spring 2013, he taught a painting course for junior art majors at Georgetown College entitled Impasto Mannerisms, dedicated to the study of gesturalisms in paint exclusively.
