In this video, I test out three different types of paint pens for miniatures — just to see what all the fuss is about! This isn’t a sponsored review; I bought all three sets myself for a quick, unscientific comparison to see how they handle on a 28mm fantasy figure.
The contenders are:
Army Painter Speed Paint Markers
AK Real Colour Markers
AK Playmarkers
I applied each to a white base-coated model to compare coverage, flow, and control. My first impressions? Each pen behaves differently, but all share one issue — the nibs are too large for precision work. The Speed Paint Markers dry too fast, leaving a streaky finish. The Playmarkers’ brush nib feels better, but the paint is too runny. The Real Colour Markers are opaque, yet too chunky for tight detail.
