Angela Fehr Watercolour | Paint an Abstract Watercolor Painting; Intuitive Mark Making Exercise @angelfehr | Uploaded October 2018 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
In this free watercolor lesson, I'm demonstrating how to paint an abstract in watercolor. I love using intuitive, expressive mark making with an amazing brush to create dynamic, lively lines in watercolour.
Watercolor abstract painting is about self-expression, and learning how to give yourself to the process is part of the adventure! Be playful in your warm ups in the studio, explore your own expressive mark making and see where it leads!
Look for large shapes to start, then build on those to reinforce the composition and make it more interesting. Use a range of values from light to dark, and remember that where the contrasts are the greatest, the focal point will stand out more. Keep your colours simple, and have fun trying new combinations to play with.
I love teaching painters how to paint more confidently! Subscribe to my channel for more and sign up for my weekly email list with coaching and encouragement for painters. bit.ly/2xH3dPi
