In a packed bed reactor, liquid reacts with the ceramic pellets impregnated with catalyst particles as it makes its way down the reactor. In a trickle bed reactor, liquid and gas move down a packed bed of catalyst particles. To find out more of their applications in chemical engineering please visit AIChE’s Particle Technology course at aiche.org/els106
