Meet Paul, one of our ride leaders and bike mechanics. Paul had always struggled with addiction and mental health problems, and this came to a head during the isolation of the COVID19 pandemic. He ended up in Damien John Kelly House, a men's recovery centre.

Once there, he began to take part in their organised "Joy Rides", and he realized how much he loved being on a bike; rediscovering hunger, unknown parts of his city and a kind community. Paul trained to become a ride leader, and then a bike mechanic, and now works fixing bikes for the Big Bike Revival events put on by Cycling UK. Paul has found a new purpose in life, a new way to bond with his sons, and a new focus to keep him on the straight and narrow.
