Just be yourself! Nobody’s perfect. We’ve all done things we regret. So, how do we overcome regret, and get past the past? Instead of trying to hide our faults, we should be learning from our mistakes, and using our failures as lessons for the future. Not just for us, but for those around us.

As Christian motivation, in this short Bible Study / Bible devotional out of Psalms 78, we’ll see how to overcome regret by knowing, nobody’s perfect, but if we take up the challenge and be honest, we can point to the One who is!

I’ve never done anything that I’ve regretted. I’ve never been wrong. I have never made a mistake. I pretty much lived a perfect life up until this point. Sin… no… never.

Let’s be honest. Everything I just said… could - NOT - be true of anyone. We’ve all done things that we regret. We’ve all been wrong. We’ve all made mistakes... none of us is prefect or without sin.

Knowing that, why are we so afraid to reveal our past? Because it makes us seem, weak? Flawed? Imperfect? And in our false fronts of perfection… what message are we broadcasting to those around us? How high of an imposable standard have we set for those in our lives… Our friends? Our family? Our children?

Wouldn’t it be better to be honest about our past? Wouldn’t the failures of our friends and family be so much lighter of a load for them to carry, knowing we’ve also made mistakes?

That’s what we see Psalms, chapter 78. The truth was, Israel’s past was riddled with failures. They made wrong decisions. They ignored God’s voice. They had a lot to regret.

But instead of not talking about their failures, Psalm 78:4 reads, “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.

That simple verse reminds us to set aside our pride, and be honest about our past, not just as lessons for the future, but as opportunities to show others, that even in our failures, God is faithful and forgiving. No one is perfect, but if we’re honest about our past, we can point to the one who is.

That’s today’s Bible Munch.
