December 11, 2018 - In the midst of what would end up being a career-best 14-game point streak, it seemed as though everything Alex Ovechkin touched turned to gold. With 10 goals and 16 points in his last 11 games, the Great 8 was on fire, and for the Detroit Red Wings, that was bad news. The Caps were already up 2-0 when Ovechkin scored off a shot that would have gone wide if not for an unfortunate deflection off of Niklas Kronwall. Ovechkin added his second with a snipe past Johnathan Bernier in the middle frame, before squeaking the puck past Jimmy Howard to complete his 21st career hat trick.
