March 30, 2019 - As the Great 8's career has gone on, his number of simply historic performances has increased. For the last several years of his career, he has seemingly hit several major milestones or records each season. But as Ovechkin hit more and more of these it became clear - he preferred to do it in style. His 500th goal came in a 2-goal performance leading the Caps to a 7-1 win. His 1,000th point, 600th goal, and many others followed a similar pattern. His 50th goal of the 2018-19 season was no different. After making his presence felt early on, he finally got on the board scoring his 50th goal of the season while also delivering a hit. It doesn't get much more Ovi than that. He became just the third player to score 50 in eight different seasons, and just one behind only Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy who are tied at nine apiece. Before the game could come to an end Ovechkin scored one more to bring his total up to 51 - the 5th highest of his career. That would actually be the marker that won Ovechkin his 8th Rocket Richard trophy - breaking a tie with Bobby Hull for the most seasons leading the NHL in goals. To make the game even more memorable, his performance helped lead the Caps to a road win over one of the best regular season teams of all time.
