December 2008 was proving to be one of Ovechkin's best months with 9 goals and 7 assists in the 11 games before Christmas. After one his best games ever in the last game before the holiday break, Ovechkin continued to lead the way for injury-riddled Caps providing an all-around effort that saw him even get time on the penalty kill due to the injuries. He finished with just one goal in the game, but it would go down as one of the best he would ever score - stickhandling past Henrik Tallinder before scoring while falling against Patrick Lalime. The goal proved to be the game-winner in one of several memorable games on the way to him winning his second consecutive MVP award.
