In Lansing, Illinois, the park district is a separate entity from the Village Board. They have their own board and budget, and they make decisions separately from the Village Board.
Historically, the Lan-Oak Park District has been in charge of Lansing's Fourth of July celebration. But they canceled the festivities in 2024 and 2025, so this year Mayor Brian Hardy decided the Village would organize an event. 2026 is the 250th birthday of the United States, the 100th anniversary of the Henry Ford Hangar in Lansing, and the 25th anniversary of 9/11 — a milestone year that Mayor Hardy believes deserves a celebration.
At the February 3, 2026, Committee of the Whole meeting, the Village Board heard a presentation from Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions describing a fireworks plus drones show that Lansing would be proud of. See the full presentation here: youtu.be/t2Ux-OxyiF4
