Enter the high-pressure world of pilots who risk their lives servicing the vast wilderness of the Australian Outback. To make a buck in this hot, hostile world they must battle fire, flood and rough dirt landing strips to deliver on time and alive. Meet father and son cattle muster team Grant and Matt. Braving low speed and low altitude (otherwise known as the dead mans curve) is one of the most dangerous flying maneuvers, but it’s all in a days work for these helicopter cowboys.
Scott is the flying plumber from Alice Springs. Scott’s commute is the vast desert skies of the red centre. One of his biggest dangers he faces is missing the daylight rush hour and flying in the pitch black the desert sky. With no radar and limited air traffic control on the ground, getting lost and mid-air collisions are a constant threat. And then there’s Alex and Mick the power-line cleaners. Alex hovers just metres form from high voltage power-lines and towers, while Mick hangs precariously from the helicopter spraying high-pressure water at insulator coils. Not surprisingly, it’s one of the most dangerous flying jobs of all.
