Pennhurst Asylum, originally known as Pennhurst State School & Hospital was founded in 1908, five years after its construction began. It remained in operation until ultimately closing its doors forever in 1987 after years of allegations of patient mistreatment. In modern times, Pennhurst Asylum has become notoriously famous for its features on such well-known TV shows as Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.
