We've been believers in ODI's Lock-On Grip technology for decades now...way before KTM made the commitment to equip all of its off-road motorcycles with them, right off the showroom floor. During that time, ODI has introduced several new grip designs, sizes, patterns, and colors, but we've typically preferred the MX2 Half-Waffle grips most.
A few weeks ago, though, ODI debuted the Recoil Full-Waffle Grip, and we reluctantly agreed to test it out. Full waffle? Eli Tomac is the racer best known for liking full-waffle grips, and there's a reason they call him Beast Mode! Back in the day, all motocross bikes came with full-waffle grips, and it became an art form to trim them down to half-waffle with a fresh razor blade. The Recoil Full-Waffle, however, is far from as big and hard as the full-waffle grips that came to mind when we heard the name!
The Recoil Ful-Waffle has the traditional half-waffle design that we've all grown to know and love, on the bottom side of the grip, but the top half waffling is way more forgiving and technical! ODI calls the waffles on the top half Radial Micro Ribs, which actually look like two smaller, more compressible ribs in the space of one of the traditional ribs on the bottom half of the grip. This allows them to squish beneath your palm, offering traction and vibration damping against your palm, but not making the grip so large that it is harder to hold on to. On the insides of the grip where the webbing between your thumb and index finger rests are dozens of micro ribs, which afford great traction but don't wear a hold in your hand like old-school, harder full-waffle grips.
Needless to say, they installed easily as all ODI Lock-On Grips do, and within a matter of corners, we were huge fans of the feel, the Recoil's ability to absorb engine vibration, and isolate the rider from track imperfections. In a word, we love them!
