The Story of Stuff Project | Our community helped save a small NYC recycling center from eviction | The Story of Stuff Project @StoryofStuff | Uploaded August 2022 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Sure We Can, the only non-profit, unhoused-friendly redemption center in New York, was on the verge of eviction for years. The space serves more than 400 canners, provides educational activities for schools and universities, and promotes sustainability, recycling, and composting. What’s more, Sure We Can is incredibly effective at removing tens of millions of plastic, aluminum, and glass containers from the waste stream. Our community was able to raise over $15,000 to contribute towards their purchase of the lot they've been renting, and they've now secured a permanent home. From all of us, we thank you.
