“Roma” and “The Favourite” are the among the, ahem, favorites at this year’s Academy Awards.
The critically acclaimed dramas led all movies with 10 nominations apiece during Tuesday’s announcements of the 2019 Oscars finalists, including receiving nods in a packed Best Picture field that also includes “Green Book,” “Black Panther,” “A Star Is Born,” Vice,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “BlacKkKlansman.”
“Roma” filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón’s largely autobiographical movie drawing from his experiences being raised by a nanny in Mexico City also netted a best director nomination for Cuarón, as well as nods for Yalitza Aparicio for Best Actress and Marina de Tavira for Best Supporting Actress.
