‘Gaslight’ directed by George Cukor is a 1944 psychological thriller starring Ingrid Bergman & Charles Boyer. In the film, a famous actress dies leaving an inheritance to her relative Paula Anton, played by Ingrid Bergman. This inheritance includes gems & jewels that are locked away in the attic of the newly inherited flat.
Charles Boyer’s character, Gregory, knows of these gems, & proceeds to pursue & ‘woo’ Paula.
After marrying her, he begins to secretly search for the jewels in the attic each night. When he is almost caught, he begins to manipulate Paula in ways that are now referred to as ‘Gaslighting’. 🔥
