Unicorn Riot | Organizer Speaks After a Pro-Palestine Sit-In Was Broken Up By Police @UnicornRiot | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 12 hours ago.
On the morning of August 6, 2024 in Denver, CO, around 15 protesters entered The Center on Colfax, which refers to itself as an LGBTQ community center, to conduct a sit-in calling, in part, for The Center's board to meet with them to discuss the funding The Center receives from weapons/tech manufacturers which have ties to Israel. Rex Fuller, the CEO of The Center on Colfax, called the police on the protesters about seven hours into the sit-in. Dozens of police arrived, including the Denver Metro SWAT team dressed in militarized uniforms. When Lt. David Albi finally gave a five-minute warning, protesters left out the front entrance to avoid arrest. The three organizations who conducted the sit-in — Disability Liberation For All, Gay Liberation Front for Palestine, and Denver Students for a Democratic Society — all stated that they will continue putting pressure on The Center.
